COFFEE BAY TO CRADOCK

We said goodbye to the Ocean View and headed inland where we were told we could see the old Africa.  We had not even made it to the main highway, before I had to stop. On the connecting road there was a large number of women singing and chanting. It was a religious event and we were told they had been there for two days singing and being feed by the group.

The plan was to drive to Queenstown and if I was tired of driving, we would stop there. We made Queenstown by 12:30 and the drive had been easy so we decided to press on. However, every town of any size has a KFC and I had been joking about I would keep driving if I got a KFC. The food police kept saying “you don’t need a KFC”. The first KFC was on the right of the divided highway (remember, we are on the “wrong” side driving") and the food police pointed it out but I said there was no U turn to get to it and besides, there will be another on our side of the road before we leave town. Sure enough, here comes the KFC, but I can not figure out how to get in and the food police is yelling “make a (illegal) U turn right here. We are from out of town”. Now I start to wonder who really wants the KFC. I was half joking, but I think she is serious, so I whip a U’b.

I almost missed it again as there is only a drive through and there is no parking, but I made it. We ordered a 5 piece meal, pay and drive to the pickup window. There is a order mix up and the manger says “just give them to this gentleman for free” and out pops two ice creams and the chicken. Guess we were supposed to be here.

We head out of town and start looking for a picnic spot. I finally just pull off on a side road, which are few and far between. Looked like a great spot for a minute or two until all the big trucks hauling rocks started coming by.

After leaving our lunch spot, we passed about twenty picnic tables under trees.  Odd, as we did not see ten cars for the next hour and a half.

soon i realized i had seen this place before.......it was called kansas. this is parked in the middle of the road with no car in sight.

We came to Cradock and it is like no town that we have been too yet. It is small, quaint and actually looked like a town instead of a warehouse. We checked into the Victory Manor. We were stunned when we found our "room" to be a whole house.

when gibson, the front desk manager on the left, found out vicki had gone to university with michael jordon, he demanded to be photo'd with  her. he is a basketball fanatic.
