Day 28, 29, 30
We said our goodbyes to Louie and his wife and “Cat” the cat and headed for wine country.

The winds had died down and the day turned great. As we moved away from the coast and the great shark tour boats we moved into the breadbasket of South Africa with grain as far as the eye could see.

When we came over the Mont Rochell pass, the next valley was fantastic. In the bowl was the tiny town of Franschhoek, a yuppie type place that easily could have been in Napa Valley California or the alps of France for which the town was named. Complete with high end real estate sales and Porsches.
The Corner House B&B was a great place to land. Daniele and Dick made us feel right at home and greeted us with wine and hors d’oeurves. Oh yea and all the animals James, Martha, Desert Storm and more.

Today is the first day in over a month I did not get in the car. It was a beautiful day and we just took off walking through the countryside.

For those who have not read about my travels before, I will tell you about the “Club Sandwich”. In my young years, long before MacDonald's or KFC spread like the plague through the world, while living in the Ladyhill Hotel on Orchard Road in Singapore, for some reason the Club Sandwich became my comfort food and remained at the top of the list for many years. In Singapore, the bars of Bangkok, the hills of Hong Kong and on to the Hotel Quito, the Club Sandwich was my little touch of comfort in strange places. So, while walking down the main street of Franschhoek today, I came across a “Todays Special, Club Sandwich and a beer” for less than $10... it had to be done.

The weather turned bad on day 30 so we went to see Pappa Grappa to get something to warm us up. Lunch had been the idea but we got there so early, we just drank a lot of Pappa Grappa’s grappa, bought a bottle and headed home where we took the rest of the day off from the rain and fog.
